Big Daddy's Birthday!

So the Daddy had a Birthday last week!! We love to celebrate Daddy's birthday! Mimi and Bumpy wanted to take us out for kid-less dinner on Jay's birthday, which was great for us! Unfortunately when the day arrived Mimi had gotten this terrible stomach virus that's been going around, so going out was out of the question. We decided to go on to our small group meeting that night instead, Andie was already planning to come babysit, and we could plan a birthday celebration later in the week.It just so happened to also be our small group leader's (Clint) birthday as well, so I emailed the group and let them know I would bring cake for the birthday boys! So Andie showed up after school and I was just getting the cake going, and both kids were getting up from nap...that's when the contractions started, and they were very consistent. Coming every 6-7 min, and occasionally every 4-5 minutes, and I had already taken both of my pills that day...hmmm...wasn't really sure what was going on. I just tried to ignore them and go on with my plan. But things just were not going well with the cake, everything was taking longer than I had thought it would, and I was seriously running out of time (and contractions were getting a little closer together and some were quite strong) and I was trying to rush and put the cake together before it was completely cool...and it FELL APART!! Completely! One while side just broke and slipped off the top! UGGGHHH...I was so annoyed, but I just told Jay we'd have to stop and pick something up on the way...Mean while still contracting and trying to get on the road to Powdersville... I had told Jay what was going on and he kept asking should we really be going to group?? I insisted that it was probably nothing, and that they would probably go away once I could sit down and eat something...

Well, we go to the store and head down 85 to Powdersville, and I get the strongest contraction yet and Jay says, we should not be driving to Powdersville! We just need to get you some food and see where we are...So we get off the interstate and find somewhere for dinner and try to make the most of it being his birthday even though we were timing contractions at the table the whole time we were eating...

And guess what, I was right! As soon as I sat down and ate they started spreading out and by the time we came home they were almost completely gone...Can you believe that?? Hours of contracting just to have them fade away...Big build up and huge let down!!

So the next day I decided to do a quiet family dinner here at home and surprise Jay when he got home.I made a wonderful pot roast, with rice and gravy, and broccoli and Annalee painted a homemade card for him, and we put up a Happy Birthday Banner for him...

I even managed to savage some of the chocolate cake from the night before , and added some homemade chocolate mousse, for a Birthday Parfait!

He was quite surprised and we had a lovely dinner together, and the kids and I sang happy birthday to him, even Jude tried to sing Happy Birthday!

And we were able to go out for a nice adult dinner on Friday with with Mimi and Bumpy and Lara too!

  1. Happy birthday to Jay! What a let down with those contractions though. :( I really think if they just broke your water you'd be good to go at this point, but that's just what happened with me. That parfait looks DELICIOUS!

  2. I hated the contractions that teased you like that, I had them a few times with Brynleigh and they happened the same way. I'd be contracting for hours and then they'd just go away once I stopped moving around. The birthday parfait thing sounds delicious! Cute pics! :)
