Keeping the Home Fires Burning

Last week I decided to make Chocolate Chip cookies for the kiddos (alright, alright...me too) for snack.

So I turned my oven on to preheat to 350... I got all my ingredients, measured them out and mixed them up, dropped the dough on the the pan in little mounds. The oven beeped to let me know it was in fact 350 degrees, and I popped them in the oven. Set the timer for 6 min, because the last time I made cookies, I burned the first 2 batches because I didn't set the timer and forgot about them...cut me some slack, I'm a little distracted these days!

So the cookies are in, the timer is set, so I take Ezra to change his diaper. We come back into the kitchen, I see the timer says 3 min to go...and so I sit down to play with him, when I realize I can smell the cookies, I mean really smell them, like they're burning! I look at the timer and it says 2 min, which means they have only been in there for 4 min (sorry, I know you can do the math).

So I look through the oven window and I see FLAMES!! FLAMES! Inside my oven! and I'm holding my newborn, and my other 2 babies are sleeping...I'm freaking out a bit...Not sure if I should call 911 or what. So I put Ezra down and go back to the oven, and thankfully when I open it and the temperature inside goes down a bit the flames go out...wheeww!

This is what the cookies looked like after I pulled them out...don't you want one???

So at first I thought I had lost my mind, because the top element was what was on, you know the one used for broiling, that gets REALLY hot...but I knew I had set the oven to an actual temp, and not just broil...so at least I wasn't crazy, but there was something really wrong with my oven...

Turns out the computer board had gone out in the oven and was just doing whatever it wanted regardless of what I told it to do...nice...don't you jut love technology???
