Not exactly fun, but still manageable, around 10 the doc came in to check me and my water broke, (and it was ALOT...remember the high fluid levels) and flooded the entire bed...I was sitting in a good inch of water...
Things really picked up at this point, I was 4 cm, and I felt like time was flying by. The pain got a lot worse and Jay was having to help me concentrate through each of them at this point. The nurse asked if I was ready for my epidural, and since I had been hoping to go natural (yeah right, I was such a newb) I said no not yet... a little later she came in and said that the anesthesiologist was going in to a c-section, and may not be available for a while, was I sure I didn't want it now...and just like that I caved...IT HURT! Within a few minutes I was asking when he was coming, it was really getting intense... And when he finally did get there, I had to sit curled over with my feet in a pretty little chair (that got soaked since water gushed with each contraction) and try not to puke as each of the pains came, gripping Jay's hand the whole time, while the doc tried 3...yes 3 different times to get the needle in, apparently the 2 vertebrae they like to go between are to close together in my spine, so they had to go a little lower and it FINALLY worked! YAY!! Thank you Jesus for pain meds! It was awesome, I felt great and ready to enjoy the rest of my labor, which we were convinced would be a quite a few more hours.
My mom and my older sister came, and Jay's mom and daughter came, it was about noon at this point so my mom leaves to go pick up my little sister and I send Jay out to get himself some lunch, and the nurse comes in to check me again, and guess what... I'm a 9!!!! What the Heck???? How did that happen??? And there I was without my husband!! So I made some phone calls and let everyone know it was almost time and told my hubby to get his be-hind back to the hospital ASAP!!
I was so excited!! Baby Girl was almost here! So Jay got back, and and I was checked again, and yep it was PUSH time! My mom and older sister stayed in the room too, while Jay's parents, and sister and daughter along with my younger sister were all in the waiting room...(it was awesome to have everyone there and ready to see herright after she was born)
Pushing was harder than I thought, and at one point her heart rate was dropping and so we had to try some different positions, and I was pretty sure my epi was wearing off (now after my second baby I KNOW it was wearing off)...but after about an hour she was crowning and they told me to wait...WHAT??? You want me to wait??? For anyone who's been there, when you can really feel that baby crowning it is nearly impossible to WAIT! But the doc had not yet arrived and so writhing on the table, I did my best to wait...
So the doc comes in and 2 pushes later she was out...oh sweet relief! And it was totally love at first sight...I loved her while she was in my belly, but it was a whole new thing when I finally had her in my arms!
My sweet baby girl is 2 today...but here are a few pics from her original Birthday...And yes she was that clean when she came out! (I think it was all the water that kept rushing out through the labor, I think it must have worked like a shower :)

I'll post 2nd birthday pics tomorrow!!
What a cute idea to post about your labor on her birthday!!! Such a cute story!
ReplyDeleteOh, and happy late birthday to your darlin girl!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! She still has the same little face she did then. :) I enjoyed reading about her birth. Happy Birthday to your big girl!
ReplyDeleteLabor and birth stories are often not talked about as our kids get older, but I am glad to hear about Annalee's again! I couldn't help but grin reading about her not wanting to take practice breaths and just today my ears were ringing from her piercing "happy" scream from one of her breaths that she so easily does! :) Each moment, each breath is so precious! Thank you for sharing about you and Jay and my precious little niece!
