Baby Ezra Jack Scott made his way into the world on Feb 25th 2010 at 2:35 pm. He weighed in at 9 lbs 2 oz and 21.5 in.
We got to the hospital at about 9:30 am. At 10 am Dr. Keith came in and broke my water, and I was at 4 cm. Whooppee, I thought it would go fast from there, since both of my other 2 did... Around 11 they started pitocin and I started getting more regular contractions, so I went ahead and asked for the epidural. Definitely not the most fun part of the birth, but I choose it over labor pains! The doc came in and did it, it didn't take long before I was laying down and waiting for it to take effect. At this point Jay decided to go down and get some lunch. Suddenly I realized everyone talking to me sounded like they were in a tunnel, and my hands were going numb. I told the nurse and she saw that my blood pressure had dropped to 62/30. They got me a cold cloth and the anesthesiologist gave me some other drug and it started correcting itself. By the time Jay was back, I was almost back to normal.
Around 12:30 I started feeling pressure and thought I had made some progress, but the nurse checked me and I was still just a little more than 4 cm...turns out it was my epidural was not working the way it should, and I was just feeling pain from the baby moving down with the contractions. So we called the anesthesiologist back in and he moved the catheter out a bit and thought that would do it. It didn't an hour later the pain was worse, but my only other option was to have him redo the whole thing. No thank you! I just decided to deal with it.
The doc came in to check me at 2 pm and said I was a 6-7! Yippee!! Finally real progress. At this point my sister Angie said "Maybe you'll have that baby before I have to leave at 2:25 to pick up the kids" I told her no way...
A few minutes later I was feeling even more pressure, nurse checked again, and I was 9!! Whoo Hoo! They call the doc back in and I am beginning to tell them I need to push!
Seriously, the epidural did not work right. I could not feel my legs or any pain in my belly, but I could feel everything else, and I was very aware of needing to push. I pushed through one contraction and some of his head was out. Then Dr. Keith had me wait and breath so I could stretch on my own...absolutely excruciating! Then she had me make little pushed until his head was all the way out.
Then through the next contraction I tried to push out his shoulders...it didn't work, the nurse had to get up on the bed and push down on my belly to get him out.
At 2:35 pm Ezra was born to amidst my screams and sighs of relief! He was completely blue and had barely uttered a sound when they handed him to me for just a minute and then took him to be rubbed down and get a little oxygen. He was just fine, it just took him a few minutes to figure out what he was supposed to do.
He is absolutely beautiful, and sweet. We are already completely in love! Annalee keeps calling him "her" baby, and Jude seems relatively unfazed by this new edition, other than just wanting to grab him all the time, so we have to be careful of that.
Congrats Amy! Beautiful pictures! Sorry it seemed so painful for you this time, but I'm sure you're just glad he's here now and none of that matters anymore. He was a pretty big boy!! :) Glad to hear all is well and he's good and healthy. Sorry to hear that Jude was sick and Annalee too(read on FB). Not sure if you and Jay were sick as well, but I hope everyone is feeling better now. Must have been so hard to deal with a sick baby when you were ready to have one at the same time. (((HUGS)))
